Jadeite "Qilin" Carving
Chinese carvings often incorporate symbols for good luck, prosperity and other positive wishes. Qilin or Chi Lin is a Chinese unicorn with a dragon’s head on the body of a horse. This Qilin carries a fan, gourd, fly whisk, flute, lotuses, pomegranates and bamboo tubes --all symbols of fortune and wealth.

Tourmaline Carvings
In 1972, an immense pocket of superb tourmaline was uncovered in Maine, Dunton Quarry Mine, Newry Hill, USA. These high-quality crystals ranged in color from beautiful greens and rich pinks to piercing blues. From this material, master gem carver Gerhard Becker of Idar-Oberstein, Germany, created a series of miniature carvings of birds, mammals, and fish native to North America. This series of pieces is a gift of John Staver.

Visions in Crystal
“Visions in Crystal” stands at more than 6 feet (210 cm) tall and is comprised of 264 tiles of rock crystal quartz, citrine and smoky quartz each cut with various angular facets.

Tablet to Tablet
GIA’s museum and Richard T. Liddicoat Library and Information Center (the largest repository of gem information in the world) teamed up to create an exhibit for bibliophiles and rockhounds alike. ‘Tablet to Tablet: Treasured Pages from Past to Present,” showcases more than 26,000 rare book pages from around the world on gems, minerals, and natural science dating back to the 15th century.
